AHMED AZRI BIN MOHAMED (BUBU)
Creative Director | Head Choreographer | Chief Instructor
Abu started dancing in 1999 when he joined Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts as a dancer. This proved to be a fortunate and illuminating as the renowned Madam Som Said, took it upon herself to edify Abu on the tenets of Malay traditional dance.
Imbued with the knowledge he has gleaned, Abu set forth on his path by joining a (then) nascent Malay dance group, “Ayunda Lestari Dance Group” in 2001. His dedication to the arts paid off when he was appointed to be the group’s Resident Choreographer in 2003. Since then, Abu has choreographed numerous dance items for various shows and events nationwide.
Eager to learn more and seeking the need to share his knowledge with other interested individuals, Abu ventured further in the Malay dance arena by lending his skills to another renowned Malay dance group, Attri Dance Foundation in 2004. Although he is in this group on a freelance basis, Abu’s vast knowledge made him a valuable asset to the team and until now, he is continuously invited to perform with them on numerous shows and events.
Blessed with the wisdom he has gained over the years, Abu sought a tangible avenue to guide the next generation of dedicated dancers. He therefore applied and became a MOE-certified Malay Dance Instructor in 2004. He was able to utilize this new platform in his journey to impart the skills he has learnt to other dancers so that they too, may revel in the joys of dance and share their interest with others. Since then, Abu is known for his accomplishments during the annual Singapore Youth Festivals (SYF). During these competitions, his schools have been known to receive the highest accolade possible, the Distinction award.
Currently, Abu is actively engaged in instructing students from various schools in Singapore on the methodology of Malay dance. He is also actively lending his expertise in choreographing unique dance pieces for Ayunda Lestari Group of Cultural Arts. Despite his accomplishments, Abu is constantly learning and widening his dance erudition
