ABOUT US

Ayunda Lestari Dance Group was founded on 12th December 1999. “Ayunda” which means sister and “Lestari” which means “to preserve” was under formerly under the direction of an all male Dikir Barat Group “Andalan Awajar II” and an all female Dikir Barat Group “Suria Mestika”.
Andalan Awajar has since stopped its cultural activities in year 2000, thus giving the opportunity to Ayunda Lestari & Suria Mestika to be independent and stand on their own.
Ayunda found her first venue of dance training at Kampung Chai Chee Community Club in January 2000. She started off with only 5 female dancers and all the dancers received their basic Malay Dance training from Sri Warisan – Som Said Performing Arts under the direction of Singapore recognized choreographer – Mdm Som Said.
With the basic knowledge of the basic Malay Dance, Ayunda began, slowly building her way exploring into the arts scene. She began her first performance at Pulau Tekong Army Camp in January 2000 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Celebration and she began her first challenge in coordinating & choreographing a simple yet a good performance. It ended with a successful event and this success was contributed by the effort by all the dance members of the group.
She moved to Eunos Community Club in June 2001 and had the opportunity to perform at various events. Ayunda Lestari is now known as Ayunda Lestari Group of Cultural Arts due to the incorporation of a music group under her direction.
